Because, meditation has several benefits that can help you live better.
By practicing meditation you are going to live in a much more relaxed way. Meditation relieves your stress. You get in contact with your deeper self. You end up feeling more confident.
But. The nice thing is that meditation also has physical benefits. Not just mental ones.
Through meditation, you’ll notice that you’ll begin to feel more flexible. You’ll get more relaxed breath. Your heart rate goes down. It’s been shown how meditation can even lower your cholesterol level, and also your free radicals.
In a way it’s a bit like doing physical exercise. Without working out! Amazing huh?
So. Yes. Practicing meditation is cool. And it’s a great habit.
Make it a Habit
But the most important, and probably most difficult thing, is to do it routinely, every single day. You’ll really need to get organized if you want meditation to really improve your life.
First thing you’ll have to decide: when to meditate?
You’ll want to find a way and develop a routine. Make it part of your daily habits. Like you brush your teeth every morning. You also go through your 5-10 mnutes of meditation every day.
The best thing to do is to decide a time in the day when you regularly do it. Not try to fit it in whenever it fits. But make a time for it.. Alsways at the same time.
Ideally, you’ll want to do it in a moment when there’s no chance that you’re going to get disturbed or interrupted. Possibly eliminate sources of noise around you.
A very useful trick is to try and wake up those 10 minutes earlier than everybody else in your house, and meditate in that time.
Or, alternatively, go to bed 10 minutes later. That is enough to allow you go through your daily meditation.
Then, you want to push your ritual even deeper, in order to help you meditate better. You’ll want to always meditate in the same place possibly. This will help you create a mental hook with the feeling of being in the meditative state, that you experienced in previous days meditation sessions, in that same place. Over time this will make it easier and easier for you to quickly fall into your meditation state.
So, develop rituals.
Another point is that you should try to go into meditation with an open heart. Try to leave your stress behind, and be happy that you have the possibility to do your meditation. Feel the gratitude. Use your body to help you with this, Smile a bit and relax more muscles. This simple detail will automatically send quite a bit of your stress out of the door.
Don’t get stressed by your incoming thoughts. As we know, you goal in meditation is to try and free your mind from thoughts. So you are really trying to avoid being distracted by thoughts. That’s nice and dandy…but don’t even let yourself get stressed by the fact that thoughts will arrive in your mind at some point. When they do arrive, just accept them. Let them be. And wait for them to go away.
One thing that helps reinforce the ritual is the use of scents, like in aromatherapy. Like sitting in the same usual place, a scent can act as a mental hook, to help you get into meditation more easily..
And, of course, breathing. Focus on your breath, is the easiest and most common way to help yourself meditate.
